Matt Lang is an American writer, director, and one of the four founding members of Team StarKid. Alongside his brother Nick Lang, Matt is one of the primary writers for StarKid shows.
Matt has written all twelve of the Starkid shows and two national tours. Matt and his brother Nick also co-wrote the Quibi series Royalties, which was created by fellow StarKid founder Darren Criss.
Early Life and Education[]
Matt was born on October 24, 1987. He has an older brother, Nick. The two grew up together, often creating stories together. Matt later attended University of Michigan where he graduated in 2009.
StarKid[]
Matt met the members of StarKid while collaborating, the university's student-run theatre organization. Their first play was based on The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The show succeeded in developing a working relationship among the StarKids-to-be. At that point, there was no concept that they were in some sort of troupe — they were just friends with each other in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. In 2007, Matt and his brother wrote the web series Little White Lie.
In his senior year at the University of Michigan, Matt co-wrote, A Very Potter Musical (then known as Harry Potter the Musical) with his brother Nick. The production sold out all four of it's performances at UMich. A recorded version of the show that was posted on YouTube for family members to watch went viral and StarKid Productions was founded by Matt, Darren Criss, Nick Lang and Brian Holden.
Since then, Matt has collaborated in the writing of thirteen StarKid shows.
Personal Life[]
Matt and his brother Nick have a cat named Valentine. Matt also has a dog named Nemo. Matt currently lives in Wichita, Kansas with his girlfriend Rusty whom he has bought a house with.
