Joseph Michael "Joey" Richter (born July 31, 1989) is an American actor, singer, writer, director, comedian and performer based in Los Angeles. He is best known for his work with American musical theatre company Team StarKid of which he was a founding member as well as his work as one of the three Tin Can Brothers.
Early Life and Education[]
Joey Richter grew up in Orange County, California. In high school, he was a competitive swimmer, racing in state and national competitions. Joey graduated from the University of Michigan in 2011 with a BFA in Acting, minoring in Global Media Studies. Joey also has additional comedy & acting training from Lesly Kahn & Company, Upright Citizens Brigade, and iO West.
Work[]
Joey has featured in a number of professional theatre productions including appearing as both Satan and St. Thomas in Judas Redux: The Last Days of Judas Iscariot at Stage 773 in Chicago. He also featured in many short films such as appearing in Camp Chapel as Alex Wilcott, Manly as Nimbus and the voice of Zealot, We're Working on It as Joey and American Whoopee as Brooks Sousaphone amongst others.
Joey has appeared in a wide range of tv series including appearing as Apple #8 in Glee, Henry Danger as the Time Jerker and Jessie as Officer Petey. He also worked as a voice actor featuring in a number of video games such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR as well as voice acting in series such as the Legend of Korra as well as working on the English dub for shows such as Diablero.
Joey has also featured in a number of projects with Shipwrecked Comedy appearing as Dash Gunfire in The Case of the Gilded Lily and as Ernest Hemingway in Edgar Allan Poe's Murder Mystery Dinner Party. He also featured in the original Shitty Broadway show.
Joey has also acted as a director for a number of short films: A Kid Thing, Channel Surfing, Bored Games and Neil, the first three of which he wrote.
Tin Can Brothers[]
Alongside fellow StarKid members Corey Lubowich and Brian Rosenthal, Joey created the multimedia production company Tin Can Brothers. Their works span many mediums including theatre, films, web series' and more.
The Tin Can Brothers works include four live stage shows: Spies Are Forever, The Solve It Squad! Returns, We Didn't Plan To Kill Our Guest and This Could Be On Broadway! and three web series: Wayward Guide For The Untrained Eye, Choose Our Destiny and The Solve It Squad! Back in Biz. They have also created two short films: Idle Worship and Flop Stoppers as well as numerous other projects including the Brooklyn Nine-Nine experience at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.
Joey has also acted in a number of Tin Can Brother's productions appearing as Crispin Lynch in Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye, Owen Carvour in Spies are Forever and Scrags in The Solve It Squad Returns!
StarKid Productions[]
Joey met the members of what is now StarKid while collaborating on plays through Basement Arts, the university's student-run theatre organization. in 2009, Joey featured in A Very Potter Musical starring as Ron Weasley which sold out its four performances at UMich. A recorded version of the show that was posted on YouTube for family members to watch went viral and StarKid Productions was created with Joey as one of its founding members.
Joey then went on to reprise his role in both A Very Potter Sequel and A Very Potter Senior Year and has also featured in seven other StarKid musicals: Me and My Dick as Joey Richter, Starship as Bug, The Trail to Oregon! as McDoon and other characters, Firebringer as Grunt, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals as Ted Spankoffski, Black Friday as Wilbur Cross amongst others. Joey has featured in A VHS Christmas Carol, VHS Christmas Carol Live! and VHS Christmas Carols as Bob Cratchit as well as appearing as Fezziwig in the latter. He also featured in Nerdy Prudes Must Die as Pete Spankoffski, taking over the role from Robert Manion, among other. Joey has also featured in two web series' for the company: Movies, Musicals, & Me and Nightmare Time and it's second season Nightmare Time 2. Joey featured in Workin' Boys as Ted Spankoffski and Steve.
Joey has also featured in three Starkid national tours, the second season of Yes, I Am Afraid Of The Dark! and 2 reunion concerts.
Joey featured in a number of productions in Starkid's 2016 summer season appearing as Owen Carvour in Spies are Forever: Reloaded, Peter in At Home at the Zoo and Freddy and Duck in Sex a.k.a. Wieners and Boobs which he also directed. Joey is due to feature in the concert It's StarKid, Innit.

Personal Life[]
Joey currently resides in Los Angeles, California with his wife fellow StarKid Lauren Lopez and their chihuahua Diane. The two announced their engagement on July 20, 2020, confirming they had been in a relationship for eight years. Lauren and Joey got married on July 15th, 2023 after being engaged for three years.
